Biotechnology

Biotechnology is a  practical use of living organisms. The term applies to the use of microorganisms in the treatment, genetic biotechnologies (selective breeding of plants and animals), the fermentation of microorganisms to produce wine, beer,  cheese and to the most sophisticated application of gene therapy.

At the begining of 20-th Century scientists studied about bacteriophagres. Bacteriophages are parasitic to bacteria viruses . They are called the bacteria-eater viruses, bacteriophages.

Bacteriophages, are existing in natural environments and are directly related to the numbers of bacteria present. They make significant impact on the evolution of bacteria.

D’Herelle was the scientist who introduced  the use of phages for therapeutic treatment purposes against infectious bacterial diseases.

Later the preparations were used for preventive and treatment measures, in medicine,  veterinary practice, water purification and disinfection.
